Without further ado and in alphabetical order, let’s take a look at some of the best day ticket fisheries in East Sussex.

Amazon Wood Fishery (Polegate)

Amazon Wood Fishery is located in Summerhill, approximately 3 miles from Polegate.

Out of the 3 lakes at Amazon Wood Fishery, 2 are available to fish on a day ticket, while the other is reserved for members (a membership can be obtained by paying a small annual fee).

Fox Lake is the smallest on the complex at around half an acre. It is a mixed fishery which holds plenty of silver fish in addition to carp, which go to over 20lb.

At 1 acre, Rabbit Lake is slightly bigger than Fox Lake. Again, it holds a good head of silver fish as well as carp, which have been caught to in excess of 23lb. The margins are known to be very productive on Rabbit Lake.

Badger Lake is the main lake of the complex and also the biggest, covering 1.5 acres of water. It has 2 islands which often yield good results and it also holds the largest carp, with the lake record being in excess of 30lb.

In order to fish Badger Lake, it is necessary to purchase a membership which costs £30 per year.

Day tickets at this East Sussex venue start at £8 per day for non-members who are fishing Fox Lake and Rabbit Lake. For members wanting to fish Badger Lake, a day ticket costs £10 and a 24 hour ticket costs £15.

Barretts Park Farm Fishery (Heathfield)

Barretts Park Farm Fishery is located in Old Heathfield, around 1 mile from Heathfield.

There are 2 lakes on the Barretts Park Farm Fishery Complex. At just under an acre in size, Bottom Lake is the smaller of the 2. It is well stocked with silver fish and holds carp to just over 20lb.

Top Lake is the main lake at Barretts Park Farm Fishery and also holds the bigger carp. The lake record is currently 25lb.

Both lakes at Barretts Park Farm Fishery have maximum depths of around 6ft and have features including lily pads and reed-lined margins.

Falkenvil Fishery (Hailsham)

Falkenvil Fishery is located in Summerhill, approximately 2 miles from Hailsham.

There are five lakes in total at Falkenvil Fishery. Three of them are match lakes, which leaves the Main Lake and the Specimen Lake for the carp anglers to target.

The Main Lake is around 4 acres in size and boasts a small island and overhanging trees as its main features. Although this lake does host matches, there are carp in excess of 20lb present.

The Specimen Lake is the jewel in the crown of this fishery for anglers who are hunting the larger prizes. There are mirrors, commons and grass carp all in excess of 25lb and the lake record is over the magical 30lb barrier. In addition to carp, there are also a number of wels catfish in this lake, with the largest of them hovering around the 50lb mark.

There are only a small number of pegs on the Specimen Lake, so booking in advance is essential to secure a peg at this East Sussex venue.

There is a large, secure car park on-site and flushing toilets with handwashing facilities.

Day tickets start at £10 for the main lake (2 rods) or £15 for the specimen lake (3 rods). Night fishing is possible but must be arranged in advance with the owners.

The average size carp in Burywood Lake is around the mid-double figure mark, but the lake regularly sees 20lb+ fish on the bank and has produced 30lb+ fish in the past. For those who like to pit their wits against catfish from time to time, the lake record at this East Sussex venue stands in excess of 65lb.

Frant Lakes (Royal Tunbridge Wells)

Frant Lakes is located in Bells Yew Green, approximately 3 miles from Royal Tunbridge Wells.

With 8 lakes on site, there are plenty of options to choose from, though it is only the 2 specimen lakes that we are really interested in.

These are numbered as lakes 7 & 8 as per the Frant Lakes map and cover around 4 acres and 3 acres of water respectively. Lake 7 has a snagged spine through the centre which gives the carp cover from cormorants and other predators, but also serves as a feature that holds many fish.

Both of the specimen lakes are well stocked and, although some smaller fish do exist, the complex carp record stands in excess of 35lb and is well backed up by a good head of 20lb+ fish.

Tench Lake is a 2.5 acre lake and is aimed at pleasure anglers. However, some large carp do remain and the lake record is in excess of 30lb, so it shouldn’t be dismissed.

Decoy Lake is heavily stocked and is the runs water of the complex. The average size carp here is mid-double figure, backed up by multiple 20lb+ fish to a lake record of 23lb.

The Specimen Lake is the creme de la creme of the Swanborough Fishing Lakes complex. The lake record is in excess of 40lb and there are a number of commons, mirrors, ghosties and grass carp to target at this East Sussex venue.

The depth varies between a minimum of 1.5ft up to a maximum of 8ft and there are 18 pegs spaced out across the 3.5 acres of water (when at full capacity, the specimen lake can become crowded).

Day tickets start at £15 for anglers fishing with 2 rods (£20 for 3 rods) and 24 hour tickets are priced at £25 (2 rods) or £30 (3 rods).
